A missing `long_description` results in `UNKNOWN` being written to PKG-INFO, but at some point, the number of trailing newlines changed. See pypa/readme_renderer#231 (comment)

Looks like the new tests caught an issue where packages built on Windows wouldn't report a missing description, probably because description is something like UNKNOWN\r\n\r\n.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Turns out there was a test bug because test_upload.py runs after test_main.py, and therefore was using the Rich output configuration. The new fixture in conftest.py normalizes the behavior.

I went down a rabbit hole and rewrote the
checktests to use a built sdist, instead of lots of patching and stubbing. The tests are slower, but I think they're easier to understand, and more valuable. By exercising third-party code, hopefully they'll catch upstream issues before Twine users report them.
